The vessel Mooring Load Monitoring system (MLMS), also known as Mooring Line Tension Monitoring, provides real time monitoring of all mooring lines and warns of excessive or out-of-range loads. Changing weather conditions or current forces on the vessel can cause unequal load sharing within the mooring system. This can lead to potential failure of mooring lines and damage to jetty equipment or structure. The MLMS enables the operator and the vessel Master to maintain safe and effective mooring line tension whilst the vessel is alongside by displaying this information graphically against preset limits and alarms.

The system utitises a load pin located in each hook to measure the shear load exerted by the mooring line. This signal is processed and displayed on a central monitoring PC. Harbour Marine's unique SmartHook® also provides real time display of loads at the hook unit itself and is typically standard specification on large oil and LNG jetties.

SmartHook® MLMS can be retrofitted to most existing mooring hooks at site making it possible to upgrade older jetty facilities cost effectively. The system is suitable for quick release hooks from 30T to 250T capicity and for both Class 1 Zone 1 hazardous or non-hazardous jetties.

Load Monitoring is often integrated with vessel drift warning and data from environmental sensors for more informed monitoring of the vessel whilst alongside.
